I’ve got sunshine on a cloudy day.

I haven’t been my writing self lately… because life, because the universe; yet, the very sweet DeeGlamour (whom it took me about seven episodes of a post to convince how quite-awesome-a-writer that I am) still thought I was deserving of the Sunshine blogger award. How delightful is that? Thank you Dee. This came as a surprise, and makes for a perfect reason to come out of hiding. Thank you.

The Sunshine award is given to bloggers who are seen as inspiring and creative, and accepting it comes with the following rules:

  1. Thank the blogger for nominating them and link back to their blog.
  2. Answer the 11 questions asked by the blogger who nominated you.
  3. Nominate 11 other blogs and give them 11 questions to answer
  4. Notify your nominees; and
  5. List the rules and display the sunshine blogger award logo in your post.

  1. Why did you start up your blog?

I wanted to challenge myself, write better, push the limits, reach a wider and more diverse audience… beyond the facebook community. And I did!

  1. What keeps you pushing and inspires you to publish a post?

The thought that my burning thoughts may just be the answer to someone’s question, the reason for someone’s smile, or the very story someone’s been dying to tell.

  1. Do you blog as a hobby or because you intend to make it a vocation where you can earn?

  1. When did you realize that you needed to start blogging? And if you could write a book about yourself, what would the title be?

Sometime in 2012. There was this urgent need to take my posts off Facebook to a more organized and personal platform. Hm, a book? Let’s see… Indigo, maybe.

  1. What informed your decision to name your blog the way it is?

I see my blog as a diary… some place I can ramble and muse without fear of judgement or the need for structure and form.

  1. Are there times you said you were going to stop blogging? If yes, why did you feel that way and how did you overcome the temptation?

Hell yes! A lot of times. It has been a mix of feeling I have little or nothing to offer the writing and reading population, negative feedback, and sheer loss of words. But for the kind words and gentle nudges of people who have at some point believed in me (and those that still do), who make me feel like my writings can be a rainbow in someone’s dark clouds, I would have been long gone off this space.

  1. What is your biggest achievement since you started blogging?

My writing is so much better because of this space… so thank you WordPress; thank you fellow writers and bloggers; thank you readers. Your love, followership and trust have been my greatest achievement so far! Thank you.

  1. How do you feel when you put up a post and nobody drops a comment or two? Do you look out for comments or you just post?

I used to always look out for comments. I mean, there is just this feel to knowing you have touched someone strongly enough to make them do more than just “pass by” or “glance over/at” your post or page. But as age added on age, and experience mingled with fate, I began to believe a little better in my posts, and understand that the presence of comments or lack thereof on my posts do not and should never dictate how I feel about such posts, and more should never diminish the worth of my work in my own eyes. My work is largely, what I say that it is. And however bad or good it may actually be, there must be an audience for it; a soul to be saved, a heart to be touched, a day to be made, a passion to be kindled. So when the comments come, I am awed and tremendously grateful. When they don’t, I keep pushing the limits. The goal is to get better and then go on and get even better.

  1. Are you happy with your blog? If yes, do you intend to publish some parts of your blog posts for sale, maybe?

Absolutely delighted about my blog! Its look, feel and most of its contents. So, errm, well… maybe. Who knows what the future will bring? 🙂

  1. What do you intend to do with your blog in two years time?

Err, time will definitely tell on this one! Hehe

  1. Finally, are you a foodie like me? If yes, do you even have a favorite food?

Errm, no, sorry. :p Lol!

I am fast running out of questions, but here are a few things I am still mighty curious about my darling friend:

  1. What has writing taught you?
  2. How would you describe your writing genre?
  3. Favorite quote and by whom?
  4. If you could describe yourself in two words, what would you be?
  5. What endears a person to you? I basically just need some hacks on how to be your favorite crush? Humour me, please. Hehe
  6. If you were a color in a crayon box, which will you be, and why?

Thank you once again Dee. This means a lot– the acknowledgement of my shy and almost-insecure whisperings. I appreciate you.

The Mystery Blogger Award (TMBA).

So! My good friend, Timi, who blogs at www.tmedatruth.wordpress.com conferred on me the Mystery Blogger Award some days back… and I am still here, trying to reel myself out of the awe that comes with such recognition and appreciation. I am honoured Timi, that you think me worthy of this award, and I am grateful too! Thank you.

The award, as described by its creator– Okoto Enigma, is “an award for amazing bloggers with ingenious posts. Their blog not only captivates; it inspires and motivates. They are one of the best out there, and they deserve every recognition they get. This award is also for bloggers who find fun and inspiration in blogging; and they do it with so much love and passion.”

Furthermore, the rules for accepting this award, are:

  1. Put the award logo/image on your blog.
  2. List the rules.
  3. Thank whoever nominated you and provide a link to their blog.
  4. Mention the creator of the award and provide a link as well.
  5. Tell your readers 3 things about yourself.
  6. You have to nominate 10 – 20 people.
  7. Notify your nominees by commenting on their blog.
  8. Ask your nominees any 5 questions of your choice; with one weird or funny question (specify).
  9. Share a link to your best post(s).

So, three things about myself:

  • I have a very short attention span, sometimes, everytime.
  • I find it easier to write than talk about my feelings
  • I am averse to rules and form, especially when it comes to writing

Questions & Responses:

Q1. Any recent article and/or book you read that was enlightening and noteworthy?  Why? Include the link and/or title.

The Sun is also a Star by Nicola Yoon. I stumbled upon the book at a time in my life when I was just bringing myself to know, and contain the complex magic that is the universe in my heart and mind; at a time when I was dealing with the many shades of love, and the role of the universe in when we get what and how… I would say, the book is a pleasant distraction from, and at the same time an engaging introduction to, the Universe in all its essence.

Q2. Favourite poem/haiku?

I have too many favourites. It is hard to pick one without feeling like a betrayer. I love works from Edgar Allan Poe, R. M. Drake, Nayyirah Waheed, Charlotte Erikkson, and many more…

Q3. Your biography in one sentence. Not more than 12 words.

I don’t know who I am, but whatever it is feels beautiful.

Q4. Have you read Malcolm X’s autobiography or watched the movie?

No, I haven’t. I think I once almost watched the movie though. Yeah, almost watched… Like, I saw it showing on some station, wanted to watch it and then decided against it. Short attention span!

Q5. Favourite rapper/poet and favourite piece from him/her.

Again, too many favourites! One that comes to mind, though, is Edgar Allan Poe and his poem Annabel Lee.

Questions for the nominees:

  1. What did you want to be as a child? Did you make that dream? Did it change? How do you feel about it!
  2. If you had a choice to select one super-power, what would it be?
  3. What is your favourite quote? What does it mean to you?
  4. If you could recommend one book as ‘the book of life’, which would it be and why? ‘Book of life’ meaning that one book that, in your opinion, has that power to give everyone that reads it something to hold on to, regardless of creed, gender, or faith.
  5. Most embarrassing question someone ever asked you?

Thanks, once again, Timi!

And do have a splufik week ahead fam!

No boys allowed!

Today is one of those days when I feel too quiet for words. I have been grappling with writing these past days, and it’s beginning to really suck. I understand that ‘ve been quite busy to the teeth, but it’s still no excuse for my muse to go AWOL on me. That’s just rude! Anyway, to more interesting issues… just recently, I was nominated for the Sisterhood blog award by Yemie. She is one blogger who just knows how to light you up like a Christmas tree, and ever since I got this award, I been feeling like December. Thank you Madam Yemie for this, you rock to infinity.

The rules of this award are summarized below:
1. First, the award logo’s expected to be displayed openly on the recipient’s blogsite!
2. Next, the Blogger who nominated you must be thanked and put up for mention via a link that easily takes one back to their own sites!
3. Ten questions as posed by the Blogger who nominated you are expected to be answered!
4. You’re also mandated to nominate and notify ten Bloggers of your choosing and pass on the torch to them!
5. Finally, you get to task your nominees with any ten random questions that so tickles your fancy!

Here are the questions asked me by Yemie:
1. What’s your life’s philosophy?
Answer: Forgive, Forget and Learn. As we grow through life’s shades and stains, people teach us to forgive and forget. But what good is such healing, if we fail to learn from the process? Forgive those that hurt you, it doesn’t much as set them free as it does you. You’ll hurt yourself too sometimes, forgive… let yourself; it helps you grow. And then most importantly, you must teach yourself to forget the pain, but not the lesson.

2. One word that best describes you would be……?
Answer: Atypical.

3. What’s the one best thing for you ’bout being female?
Answer: Being able to challenge the norm in a world where little importance is attached to the worth of womanhood outside of making good wives, making babies and making families.

4. Given another chance at ‘Womanhood’, in say…. another life; will you chance or trade it in on a whim, for the other gender? Why?
Answer: I wouldn’t trade the experience of womanhood for anything in the world, because it doesn’t stop me from being who, what or where I want to be; if anything, it gives me a cause and a reason. It’s just purfect!

5. Who’s that one person, (could be your regular boy/girl next door or a celebrity crush or a pet or even a stuffed toy) you’d REALLY fancy being marooned with for three whole days and nights on a deserted island and why?
Answer: Me. In every literal and non-literal sense of the word. Hahha! I know, I know. I’m awesome like that.

6. What are the five most essentials you’ve gotta have, (as in couldn’t do without); in your handbag or purse at every one time?
Answer: Robb/Vaseline, Pen/Pencil, Notepad, Earpiece, and Phone(s).

7. Body Odour, B.O or Dragon Breath (bad breath)? Which do you consider the ‘lesser of two evils’….the one you can ‘stomach’ and put up with, if your very life depended on it? Note: Failure to choose one of these means you favor dying outrightly! Give this some deep thoughts, Babycakes!
Answer: Mami! This wan tuff o! Well, i’ll say dragon breath and pray that the only time I find myself standing next to the person, is when we have to take a group picture… and of course, i’ll have a sub prayer point hoping the person just does a funky pout rather than an outright smile or full-split grin.

8. Fabulous Flats or ‘Killer’ Stiletto Heels? Your top choice would be…?
Answer: Fab flats please! I hate to dawdle.

9. What love lingo do you speak?! Are you the ‘touchy-feely’ type who’s into Physical Touch( Intimacy) and just loves to snuggle up, cuddle and canoodle? OR Will you be that super sensitive lassie, who fancies and craves being showered with Gifts like flowers, perfumes, chocolate bars, jewels and lockets or even a simple silken scarf….anything; for no just reason, a spontaneous gesture? OR Perhaps, you’re that girl who simply just melts when you’re continually told and reassured that you’re most adored, cherished via spoken or written words… love notes hidden in conspicuous nooks and crannies by your Beloved, by way of Words Of Affirmation OR Maybe, Acts Of Service (Devotion) is that lingo that gets you and revs up your ‘engines’, when your Boo decides to treat you to a ‘Work-free’ day, as far as domestic chores goes; where he gets to take out the trash, do the dishes or laundry, treats you to breakfast in bed or just cleans up after himself and not be a Slob for an ENTIRE day? OR you’re just a Happy Camper whose Significant Other must always, ALWAYS be present by your side…..hanging out, even if you’re both doing nothing in particular, cause your thing’s Quality Time and you’d have it no other way?!
Answer: All of the above, please! I love me a little bit of everything. On some days, there are no words and all you need is the presence and accompanying silence of that person. On other days, when doubts fill your mind for some crazy reason, you just need that one move, thought or action to re- assure you that you’re the only living thing that shines brightest in their hearts… Basically, there’s a need for every season.

10. What would you say’s the craziest, nuttiest thing you’ve ever found yourself doing that’s so TOTALLY outta character but you did it anyhow and enjoyed it too with absolutely no feelings of guilt?!
Answer: ‘ve done tons of crazy stuff, but haven’t enjoyed any so far; so i’ll stow the memories away. Some things ‘re just better left unsaid. Hehe.

Now, that was thoroughly fun! Thanks again Yemie.

My questions are…
1. What is writing to you?
2. Have you ever been called weird, why? And would you say you are weird?
3. How do you say ‘I love you’ in your dialect/ native language?
4. Which do you prefer? Daily love letters or daily gifts (however little)?
5. What is your favourite aspect of womanhood?

I would like to confer this award to the following amazing female (I hope to God they are all females)  bloggers.
